With the launch of the Feed-in Tariff in July 2012, JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp., a major Japanese oil wholesale company, announced on August 14, 2012, that it would first begin large-scale solar electric generation as part of its energy business, taking advantage of the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy launched in Japan in July 2012. The company plans to start its solar power plants in January 2013 at its refinery in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, and in March at its facilities in Kudamatsu, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
At the Sendai refinery, the company aims to construct facilities that contribute to the local community by supplying up to 50 kilowatts of electricity generated by solar power in case of large blackouts. To accumulate data and expertise on large-scale solar power plant, the company also plans to install and examine a monitoring system for early fault detection, in addition to conducting comparative verification tests of solar panels produced by various manufacturers.
Based on the solar electric generation business, the company has plans to propose solar power plant business and offer solar power systems for their customers.
