An information site for working women, Polishing Myself, run by Kaunet Co., a Kokuyo Group company, released on May 24, 2011, the findings of its survey on Energy Conservation and Eco-related Activities conducted among working women in Japan.

One question on the survey was: "If reducing energy consumption provides an earth-friendly lifestyle, would you be willing to accept a slightly less convenient lifestyle than now?" Approximately 90% of the respondents answered that they would be willing to accept a slightly inconvenient lifestyle.

As for "Future energy conservation and eco-related activities," about 70% of the respondents replied: "In the future, I will purchase LED light bulbs and other eco-friendly electrical home appliances." This finding suggests that the respondents are highly energy-saving conscious and ecology-minded in their daily lives. Seventy percent responded: "Stores and towns can be a little darker than now." Only about 50% of the respondents, however, said "There would be no problem with shorter store-opening and transportation-operation hours than now." The responses suggest that people are increasingly supportive of voluntary eco-related activities, such as less lighting in public, so long as their own lives are not affected.

Another of the questions was:"Have you personally done any energy saving and eco-related activities after the planned blackout?" The reply "I frequently turn off needless lights" accounted for 90% of responses, while about 70% stated that they use an eco bag for shopping. These replies suggest that the respondents are eager to do eco-related activities in their daily lives.
