Keywords: Energy Conservation Manufacturing industry Transportation / Mobility

Nissan Motor Co., announced on August 21, 2007, that all future models will be equipped with fuel efficiency gauges on their meter display panels. The fuel efficiency gauge will also be added to current models scheduled for minor product changes.

The introduction of the gauge should promote eco-driving and is one of the company's environmental activities aiming to reduce carbon dioxide emissions under the Nissan Green Program 2010 mid-term environmental action plan.

The gauge informs drivers of both real-time fuel efficiency and average efficiency while they are driving via a display panel. The company expects that drivers will improve their eco-driving habits over time, prompted by the real-time fuel-efficiency readings. According to the company's trials, this system could lead to an average 10 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.
