Seiko Epson Corp., a major Japanese IT equipment manufacturer, announced on December 22, 2010, that it would fully support the activities of the Energy-Saving Patrol Team in Taiwan, as a part of its social contribution activities.

Accumulating know-how in its long-term, in-house energy-saving efforts, Epson established the Energy-Saving Patrol Team in November 2000 to support energy-saving activities of local businesses and organizations around its headquarters in the Suwa area of Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

At the request of local companies, the patrol team conducts onsite inspections and evaluations on energy use, and offers advice on efficient energy use and return on investment. The companies given advice dispatch patrol members to subsequent inspections in order to understand the situations of other companies and to deepen their knowledge of energy saving. Such activities are intended to reduce total environmental loads in the area. Patrols to about 250 companies during past 10 years are estimated to have contributed to reductions in carbon dioxide emissions of about 21,800 tons.

Established at the request of Epson Taiwan Technology & Trading Ltd., the Taiwan Energy Patrol Team plans to conduct 15-20 patrols per year. Epson will support the Taiwan team, assisting in its initial and continued operations by passing on its accumulated experience.
