TBS Participates in "Gold Standard" Wind Power Project in NZ to Reduce CO2 Emissions

Tokyo Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS), a major Japanese broadcasting company, has decided to participate in a wind power generation project in New Zealand to preserve the global environment, it was announced on February 6, 2007. TBS purchased 2000 tons' worth of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions credits, which is equivalent to about six percent of total annual emissions (about 34,000 tons) from its broadcasting center.

This is a "Gold Standard" project, which means that it is endorsed by international environmental non-governmental organizations like WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), for meeting their high standards for Clean Development Mechanism and Joint Implementation projects under the Kyoto Protocol. TBS is the first Japanese company to obtain carbon credits meeting the "Gold Standard."

TBS aims to reduce C02 emissions by more than this six percent, by supporting other environmental projects in developing countries in Asia and Africa, etc., as well as by taking its own measures against greenhouse gas emissions.
