The Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) released on September 19, 2012, the Evaluation Committee report on the Commitment to a Low Carbon Society formulated in December 2009. The committee interviewed 16 industries, and all were found to have given qualitative and quantitative explanations regarding their utmost efforts, visions for setting objectives and their validities, while considering surrounding conditions and problems within each industry. The committee noted that the industries have largely fulfilled their responsibilities for explaining these concepts.

With regard to the Voluntary Action Plan on Environment, each participating industry set target initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, while Keidanren has been undertaking voluntary efforts within the entire industrial cycle by setting unified objectives. Thanks to continuous efforts by each industry, the committee noted that the reduction target for the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol could be achieved.

The committee also reported that it expects further efforts by the participating industries to strengthen partnership among industries and information transmission both inside and outside the nation.
