The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an international non-profit organization, announced on September 12, 2012, the results of its CDP Global 500 Report, an analysis of corporate activities to address global warming. The CDP sent questionnaires to the world's 500 largest companies (Global 500). Panasonic, of Japan, earned high marks for its information disclosure and emission-reduction performance and was selected among the world's top ten leading companies on climate change.

The CDP represents 655 institutional investors around the world with total assets of about U.S.$78 trillion. It evaluates corporate strategies on the subject of climate change, targeting the Global 500 and other companies that make up the FTSE Global Equity Index Series. Based on their responses, the CDP releases the names of companies that maintain a high level and quality of disclosure in an index called the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index (CDLI) and the names of companies that are most successful in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and meeting other objective assessments in an index called Carbon Performance Leadership Index (CPLI),

In 2012, 405 of the Global 500 disclosed corporate information to the CDP, 51 of which were listed in CDLI and 33 companies in CPLI. The top two companies were Bayer AG, a chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturer based in Germany, and Nestle, the world's leading nutrition, health, and wellness company headquartered in Switzerland.

Panasonic was the only company in Japan that was listed in both CDLI and CPLI. The company aims to become the most environmentally innovative company in the electronic industry by 2018, when the company will celebrate its 100th anniversary.
