Suntory Holdings Ltd., a major beverage manufacturer in Japan, has the best environmental brand image in Japan, followed by Toyota Motors Corp. and Panasonic Corp., according to the results of the 2012 Environmental Brand Survey released on July 5, 2012, by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. Coca-Cola Japan Co. rose to sixth place.
Suntory was praised for its serious efforts to conserve water by further expanding ongoing activities such as forests conservation and recycling. These activities have gained recognition across a wide demographic including young people and men.
Coca-Cola Japan, climbing from the 12th position last year, was recognized for its recyclability and resource conservation efforts such as using plant-based plastic bottles for its I LOHAS mineral water line and also for saving electricity consumed by its vending machines after the March 2011 earthquake.
This year's survey, the 13th thus far, was conducted over the Internet from March 21 through April 25, 2012, with valid responses from 20,891 people.
