Keywords: Local government Renewable Energy
The "Mayors for a Nuclear Power Free Japan" network held its inaugural meeting in Tokyo on April 28, 2012, attended by 69 current and former leaders of municipalities in Japan who volunteered to join the network.
In the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, the aim of the network is for municipal leaders, who are responsible for lives of the local citizens, to actively work together to create concrete policies aimed at creating a society which is not dependent on nuclear power.
The members intend to establish local policies for production of renewable energies. In the meantime, they are calling for other municipalities to join the network.
