Affordable Stand-alone Solar Power Generation Kit Unveiled

Keywords: Environmental Technology Non-manufacturing industry Renewable Energy

KSG Co., a Japanese company engaged in the sale and maintenance of computers and network-related devices, announced it had succeeded in developing a convenient stand-alone solar power generation kit that works independently from any power company grid, and launched sales on May 9, 2011.

The new kit, called Sora-Den No. 1, is a stand-alone green power system consisting of a solar panel, a power storage unit, a charge controller, a direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) inverter, and accessories. The system can feed power to electrical appliances needing up to 200 watts.

The solar panel in the system has a conversion efficiency of 16 percent or more, and will retain 80 percent or more of its original capacity even after 25 years of use. The power storage unit is equipped with KSG's high-function, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to ensure high performance. With a DC-AC inverter added, the system is integrated and controlled by a charge controller, and includes a 100-volt AC socket as well as a 12-volt DC car cigarette lighter socket.

The system is suitable for use as a power source in remote locations where power is difficult to obtain from the electricity grid, for emergency use in disaster-stricken areas, and as a measure for reducing power consumption from the grid. It could be used, for example, to supply power to detached work huts, electrified wire fences to protect crops from animals, charging ship or boat batteries, security lights for houses, and home electronics such as personal computers and TV sets.
