Kawasaki Heavy Industries Delivers 12 MW Wind Power System

Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. has installed, jointly with Penta-Ocean Construction Co., a 12-megawatt wind power generation system at a Green Power Setana Co. site in Hokkaido, it was announced on February 7, 2006. Green Power Setana Co. is a subsidiary of Electric Power Development Co., also known as J-Power.

The system features six turbines with 2 megawatts of output per unit, making it the largest of its kind in Japan, and is located along the coastal area of Setana Town, Hokkaido. Together, the state-of-the art turbines, made by Vestas Wind Systems A/S of Denmark, have a total annual generating capacity of 35,000 MWh, enough to meet the electricity demand of about 10,000 households.

With this system, Kawasaki Heavy Industries has so far installed 39 turbines in Japan, with a total generating capacity of 51.49 megawatts.
