Keywords: Climate Change Environmental Technology Government Manufacturing industry Non-manufacturing industry Policy / Systems Renewable Energy

The Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOE) will begin supporting the research and development of global warming prevention technologies this April. The fiscal 2004 budget for this purpose includes a technological development project for preventing global warming to outsource to the private sector, and an open support project for developing competitive and readily marketable technologies to counter global warming

Under the latter project, the MOE will invite the participation of organizations such as private corporations, to promote technologies for preventing global warming and using more bioenergy in the non-industrial sector. The project is aimed at supporting market-related developments of technologies that can be commercialized quickly. The ministry will subsidize one-third of the development costs for each project.
