Sagawa Express Partners with WWF in Climate Savers Program to Cut CO2 Emissions

In July 2003, Sagawa Express Co., one of Japan's leading transportation companies, signed an official agreement with the World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF) Japan to participate in its Climate Savers Program to prevent global warming. Sagawa Express has become the first company in Japan, and the world's first company in the transportation sector, to join this program.

As part of the program, the company aims to introduce about 7,000 natural gas-fueled vehicles, to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 6 percent from the 2002 level by fiscal 2012. In addition, the company will make active efforts for environmental protection such as improvement of transport efficiency by modal shifting and other means, engine idling restrictions, and in-house training for environmentally-responsible driving.

The Climate Savers Program is an initiative in which WWF calls for the further reduction of greenhouse gases to the companies that have been carrying out advanced environmental actions in the world. So far, for example, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Lafarge and Nike have already joined this program.
