New Programs toTrain Global Warming Experts

Keywords: Climate Change Policy / Systems University / Research institute

The ChuoAoyama PwC Sustainability Research Institute, established by ChuoAoyama Audit Corp., will start two training courses to teach expertise in the field of global warming coutermeasures.

One of the courses aims to train project validators, and its main aim is to nurture experts able to validate measures taken by businesses to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The other course is for corporate GHG managers, and aims to develop staff who can calculate and assess their company's GHG emissions and plan optimal GHG reduction solutions.

Although the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol has increased the importance of GHG management, the "Kyoto Mechanisms," such as emissions trading, joint implementation, and the clean development mechanism, are not necessarily well understood. Moreover, human and organizational resources for verifying the effects of GHG reduction projects and in-company experts at GHG emitting manufacturing firms are still in short supply.

The Institute has therefore planned short intensive courses to impart the knowledge needed to combat global warming. The project validator course will cost 120,000 yen (about U.S.$1,008) for three days, and the in-house management course will cost 88,000 yen (about U.S.$739) for two days.
