Fujitsu Promoting Environmental Efforts in Administrative Divisions

Keywords: Manufacturing industry Policy / Systems

The administrative divisions of Fujitsu Ltd.'s head office in Japan have been certified under ISO 14001, a global standard for environmental management, following environmental efforts made in the production facilities. Although conventional efforts in offices tend to be confined to areas such as resource and energy saving, and waste reduction, the company is now taking on the challenge of promoting environmental activities through each division's main business operations.

Each of the twelve departments in the headquarters, including general affairs, personnel and planning, will set individual targets regarding resource and energy saving and waste reduction, based on the Fujitsu Group Environmental Policy enforced in October 2002. Each department will also set specific targets according to its business responsibilities.

For example, the management strategy department draws up business plans for each business unit by incorporating the indices of the Fujitsu Environmental Protection Program Stage III; the corporate secretariat plans environmental awareness programs for board members; the general affairs department plans to introduce low-emission vehicles when replacing company cars; and the personnel department plans to establish a new environmental award system linking with the in-house commendation system.
