Greenhouse Effect Gas Observation Satellite to be Developed

A greenhouse gas observation satellite (named Global Change Observation Mission-A1, or GCOM-A1) is to be developed, with the aim of a FY 2007 launch, in order to observe the locations and levels of emissions and absorption of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. This plan was reported on August 21, 2002 at a committee meeting of Japan's National Space Development Agency, which is under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
