Nipponkoa Insurance Wins 2011 Environment Minister's Award for Activities to Fight Global Warming

Nipponkoa Insurance Co., a leading Japanese nonlife insurance company, won an award on November 30, 2011, in the practical activities category of the 2011 Environment Minister's Awards for Activities to Fight Global Warming. The award was given for the company's value chain management to conserve the global environment.

In 2008, Nipponkoa released a Carbon Neutral declaration, which aims to comprehensively reduce the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions caused by its corporate activities to "zero" by fiscal 2012. This effort to become carbon neutral covers all of its business activities, including marketing, business trips, paper use, printing, commuting and activities outside the company.

As an initiative to reduce CO2 emissions when handling insured events, Nipponkoa offers a carbon offset option when customers choose to repair cars with a plastic bumper or eco-parts (recycled parts). The company also provides a paperless system that allows customers can view insurance policies on the website.

The company was praised for its efforts to reduce environmental impacts through its entire value chain by providing eco-friendly procurement, goods and services.
