'Slow Life' Summit Held in Mino, Gifu Prefecture

The sixth "Slow Life" Summit was held from October 12 to 13, 2008, in Mino City, Gifu Prefecture. The summit aims to provide numerous Japanese municipalities promoting 'slow life' with an opportunity to exchange opinions , and to study their own projects, in an effort to create more attractive and unique local communities. Initiated by Gifu City, the summit was founded on August 24, 2003, with 20 municipalities participating. The summit currently consists of 18 cities who are interested in the 'slow life' concept.

This year, mayors and other officials from the 19 cities, including six observing cities, attended the summit. The participants exchanged ideas through the reception and traditional performing arts of the host city, as well as the presentation of the innovative efforts underpinning each city's 'slow life' movement.
The summit has adopted the "Mino Declaration on Creating a Slow Life Community":
"We declare that each of us will further promote a 'slow life' community where people can achieve happiness in life, by carefully reexamining our areas and finding ways to take advantage of local resources, in order to create true affluence as human beings."
