NGO Makes Massive Print-Run of Newspaper to Help Prevent Global Warming, on Summer Solstice 2007

Keywords: Climate Change NGO / Citizen

The "TEAM GOGO!" project plans to publish a one-day newspaper on global warming and distribute 30 million copies across Japan on June 22, 2007, which falls on the "Candle Night Summer Solstice 2007," (now a national event, joined by millions who turn off their lights for two hours to enjoy some quiet time in the company of others and think about the environment). This unique initiative aims to motivate as many people as possible to start some action against global warming. TEAM GOGO! is a project initiated by Tentsuku-man, the founder of Make the Heaven, a Japanese non-profit organization, and Ryuichi Nakamura, the President of Wind Farm Co.

The newspaper covers three topics: the "inconvenient truth" of global warming and its causes; suggestions to change our lifestyles, based on the idea that even small changes can make a big difference; and positive stories of people who made a difference by getting into the action.

By selecting the distribution date to align with the Candle Night event, the project organizers hope that many will read the newspaper and then talk by candlelight about what they can do individually, at home, or in companies, thinking about the children of the future.
