Japan for Sustainability (JFS) received the Unique Environmental Project Award in the Environmental Frontier category of the Third Japan Sustainable Management Awards in March, 2005. Four other groups also received this Award.

The Japan Sustainable Management Awards are co-sponsored by the Japan Sustainable Management Award Committee and Mie Prefecture, and are divided into two categories; Sustainable Management and Environmental Frontier. The biggest award given in the former category is the Sustainable Management Pearl Award, followed by the Excellent Sustainable Management Award. The Unique Environmental Project Award, the Regional Cooperation Award and the Cooperate Partnership Award are included in the latter category. A total of 15 groups shared these awards this year.

The Unique Environmental Project Award is presented to organizations taking novel and unique initiatives to provide environment-friendly products or services. JFS disseminates information on progressive approaches being taken towards a sustainable society in Japan via its website and newsletters in both English and Japanese. JFS was praised highly for acting as a bridge between Japan and the world through its work as a source of environment-related information.
