New Consultation/Verification Service Launched for CO2 Emissions Reductions

Keywords: Climate Change Non-manufacturing industry

Meidensha Corp., a Japanese heavy electric machinery manufacturer, and ChuoAoyama PwC Sustainability Research Institute, a subsidiary of ChuoAoyama Audit Corp. in Japan, reached an agreement on April 5, 2005 to jointly provide services for CO2 emissions reduction and verification.

As the Kyoto Protocol came into effect on February 16, 2005, Japan is required to reduce its greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions from 1990 levels by an average of six percent between 2008 and 2012. Fueled by the ongoing reviews and reassessment of the Outline for Promotion Effects to Prevent Global Warming, a guideline on domestic measures to prevent global warming, by the related government ministries and agencies, there are increasing needs for one-stop services in companies and local governments to reduce GHG emissions and verify them.

The two companies will provide services for reduction of CO2 emissions and verification by combining their specific strengths: ChuoAoyama's verification methodology of CO2 emission/emission reduction, know-how on environmental information gathering systems, and knowledge about CO2 emission reduction options; and Meidensha's environment and energy-related engineering equipment technology. They will thus contribute to GHG reduction in the non-industrial sector, including offices, shops and public facilities.
