The Fuji Research Institute Corporation (Fuji-RIC), a major Japanese research institute, and Electric Development Co. (J-Power), a recently privatized former government organization involved in the production of electric power, jointly launched an information service on carbon dioxide (CO2) emission credits in October 2003.

The two companies have obtained exclusive sales rights in the Japanese market for Point Carbon, a Norway-based carbon market analysis company. They provide Point Carbon's information services to corporations working on risk management and the expansion of business opportunities in the area of global warming prevention. Point Carbon has gained an international reputation for its highly credible price forecasting and analysis of the carbon emission credit market. Clients of the service include international organizations and frontrunners in various industries.

At the same time, Fuji-RIC and J-Power have jointly opened a web-based service, "GHG Solutions," in which they provide original information based on their own analyses of issues related to global warming. Information includes trends in domestic and international policy, carbon emissions trading and plans for an international JI/CDM (Joint Implementation/Clean Development Mechanism) scheme, as well as greenhouse gas trading prices affected by these trends. As part of the service, their experts organize and compile information, which often tends to be over-abundant, in a way that is appropriate for the service's subscribers. Subscribers can read monthly updated reports at their leisure by downloading them from the information service website.
