Environmental Accounting Begins in Yamaguchi Prefecture

Yamaguchi Prefecture will introduce environmental accounting in all of its prefectural offices starting in fiscal 2003. In February 2001, Yamaguchi Prefecture acquired ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system, and now plans to calculate the environmental costs (expenses) and benefits (effects) of about 280 environmental policies. After Iwate Prefecture, this is the second such initiative at the prefectural level.
