SBI Holdings Inc. announced July 18, 2007, that it concluded a stakeholders' agreement with Mizuho Securities Co., Ltd. for recapitalizing Energy & Environment Investment, Inc. (former Japan Energy Investment Inc., or JEI) in a joint venture, in which the company will engage in creating and managing investment funds in the environment and energy sectors both in Japan and overseas.

Established in March 2006 with investments from three companies, including Mizuho Securities, JEI is the first Japanese equity fund to focus exclusively on the environment and energy sectors. SBI acquired 50 percent of JEI's stock after Mizuho Securities restructured its capital to increase its assets under management and expand in the domestic and overseas investment markets.

SBI has considerable experience with investing in and nurturing venture companies, and Mizuho Securities has a track record in operating funds in the environment and energy sectors. The companies hope to contribute to the development of the industries and to help boost corporate value for the ventures they fund, using the funds created and operated by Energy & Environment Investment, by actively investing in a wide range of businesses in the environment and energy sectors worldwide.
