Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Develops Solar Power Generation System Using Emergency Water Tanks

Keywords: Climate Change Eco-business / Social Venture Manufacturing industry Renewable Energy

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) in Japan has developed a photovoltaic power generation system that can be easily installed anywhere, without foundation work for mounting. In this system, solar cells are set on lightweight high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resin tanks.

The water kept in the base tank can be used for emergency purposes. The installation cost can be reduced by about 20 percent compared with the systems built on conventional steel mounts. The process of setting up a solar cell panel capable of generating 10 kilowatts takes only about a week, saving more than a month compared to systems that use steel mounts.

MHI plans to market this system to schools, offices and disaster-prevention facilities.
