Tokyu Land to Install Energy-Visualizing System Devices in New Condos

Keywords: Environmental Technology Non-manufacturing industry

Tokyu Land Corp., a real estate company owned by a major Japanese private railways group, announced on July 20, 2012, that it will install a home energy management system (HEMS) device, "me-eco," as standard equipment in the new condominiums of the "BRANS" series. The device will be provided by FAMILYNET-JAPAN CORPORATION (FNJ), an internet service provider for condominiums.

The HEMS not only visualizes the usage of energy such as electricity, gas and water and the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in each household, it also encourages residents to make household energy saving a habit by showing the other households' energy consumption in an energy saving ranking by household, proving useful advice on energy saving through e-mails and home automation, which enables them to control lighting and home appliances away from home.

The HEMS device produced an energy savings of more than 30 percent in about half of the households that participated in the "Energy saving challenge service" conducted by FNJ in the summer of 2011, and has proven itself to be effective on both the environment and the economy. Tokyu Land intends to introduce it into new condominiums in the capital region beginning in the winter of 2012.
