Japan Trust Technology (JTT) Inc., a Japanese company that imports, develops, and markets computers and related equipment, released on August 28, 2012, a new product called "Potatos Ecology Clock." The new digital clock runs on electricity produced through a chemical reaction between two potatoes and zinc and copper rods inserted into them.

The potatoes used in the "Potatos Ecology Clock" (potatoes not included) can be replaced by anything--vegetables and fruits such as lemons, tomatoes, and apples, and even carbonated beverage--as long as it contains phosphoric acid. Connected in the same way, these foods and drinks conduct electricity to the clock. The food or drink should not be consumed after use due to the transfer zinc ions.
