Japanese real estate company Hulic Co. announced on October 20, 2011, its intention to build properties in its reconstruction business that contribute to the conservation of local biodiversity by using the Japan Habitat Evaluation and Certification Program (JHEP) developed by Ecosystem Conservation Society-Japan.
Specifically, by acquiring JHEP certification for each property, the company will aim to show clearly how each property contributes to biodiversity, as well as the basis for its calculations, and to quantitatively assess the level of its contribution as a whole company. Through its Japan Habitat Evaluation and Certification Program (JHEP), Ecosystem Conservation Society-Japan will support biodiversity conservation and restoration efforts in urban areas.
For its first initiative, two of Hulic Co.'s projects in Ota ward, Tokyo, acquired rank A JHEP certification on October 19. The projects include plans to plant trees consisting mainly of local varieties, with an aim to improve the quality of biodiversity in and around each tree.
