An incorporated body "more trees", represented by Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto, concluded on November 21, 2010, a partnership agreement with Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture, to conduct with the city and the Wood Pellet Promotion Conference (WPPC) an afforestation project in the city's Akiha Ward. The agreement aims to promote forest management and the use of wood fuel by partnering with carbon offset programs.

The Niitsu Hills (Akiha Ward, Niigata City), the area targeted for the project, is best known as the "village of petroleum," once the largest oil production site in Japan from the Meiji Era (1868-1912) to the Taisho Era (1912-1926). Through the afforestation project, collaborators hope to convert the hill into the "village of wood fuel."

WPPC has been making efforts to promote the use of solid wood pellet fuel by utilizing unused local timber offcuts as natural energy. Through the afforestation project with WPPC, more trees intends to strengthen cooperation between urban and regional areas.
