Mizkan Group, a Japanese food and seasoning manufacturing group, conducted a survey on office beverage consumption among workers in their twenties to fifties on May 22 and 23, 2009. The results indicate that about 40% of office workers bring their own beverage to work, and more than half of them started doing so within the past year.

Those who bring beverages in their own containers nearly every day or sometimes accounted for 44.2% of respondents. Half the men in their 20s and half the women in their 40s bring their own beverages. The most popular containers are "mugs/glasses" (40.6%), and containers such as "mugs" and "water/stainless bottles" outnumbered disposable containers including "plastic bottles" and "paper cups."

The reasons why people bring their own drink bottles to the office are varied, but include saving money, being eco-friendly, wanting to drink hot beverages even in the summer, and drinking healthy beverages as much as possible. It is a new drinking style for some of them who are not satisfied with the types of drinks they can buy at work. In addition, those who bring their own bottles to the office tend to use their own lunch boxes, reusable bags and chopsticks, and also are highly interested in environmental conservation.

The survey was carried out on the Internet and 416 responses were received.
