The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan announced on March 18, 2009, the winners of the first "Supply Chain Resource Conservation Model Grand Prize" and other prizes, to increase public recognition of successful projects of its Supply Chain Resource Conservation Partnership Program. Through this program, METI aims to promote the resource-saving efforts of small and medium businesses by assisting them in adopting eco-friendly designs and in reducing resource losses under cooperation among companies that consist of a supply chain group for manufacturing products.

For the fiscal 2008's awards the judging committee evaluated 20 corporate projects, and the Grand Prize was given to Panasonic Ecology Systems Co. The company succeeded in reducing waste in cutting and shaping products out of resin sheets by 11 percent through sharing information with the resin sheet maker and reducing the width of the sheets.
