Keywords: Eco-business / Social Venture Manufacturing industry

Major Japanese home appliance manufacturer Panasonic Corp., announced April 9, 2009, the launch of sales of its inverter-controlled upright washing and drying machines in China and other Asian countries, starting this summer. The products, first released in Japan in April, are equipped with "eco-wash system" technology that reduces water and power consumption. This is the first time for the company to sell washing machines with the eco-wash system in China and other Asian countries.

The eco-wash system integrates Panasonic's unique water-saving technology, which includes a "circulated jet shower" of water and suds from two upper outlets using centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the washing tub, and "dancing, stirring streams" generated by the dynamic rotation of the tub to thoroughly knead the clothes. The inverter technology converts alternating current from a power source to direct current and then to the required voltage and frequency for enhanced stability, controllability, and energy efficiency.

The company has already been selling its eco-friendly tilted-drum washer and washer-dryer models in Europe and China. The new products will be manufactured and shipped by Panasonic Home Appliances Washing Machine (Hangzhou) Co. and Panasonic Home Appliances (Thailand) Co. Panasonic plans to accelerate global marketing of its eco-friendly products equipped with its core environmental technology that it has developed over the years.
