NEC Display Solutions, a visual display manufacturer in the NEC group, launched a new line of liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) in September and October 2008. The newly released displays are equipped with a carbon meter to indicate the reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and an ECO mode function to minimize electricity consumption.

NEC Display Solutions has been developing power-saving LCDs and has adopted designs to help reduce power consumption and save electric power. Some models have a main power switch, which can be turned off when the system is not in use.

The new LCD models reduce power consumption by limiting the maximum brightness of the screen when set in ECO mode. The power consumption in ECO mode is reduced by up to 31 percent when compared to the maximum level of brightness. The carbon meter indicates the reductions in CO2 emissions in kilograms on the display, which enables users to verify the reduced environmental load while they are using the displays.

In addition, recycled resin materials are used in the containers as part of the eco-conscious design. The models being marketed in the US conform to the highest GOLD rank environmental standard according to the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool in the US.
