Use of Green PCs Expected to Spread in Japan

On February 27, 2008, International Data Corporation Japan (IDC Japan), a Japanese research company specializing in information technology (IT), announced its view on the introduction of power-saving personal computers (PCs), known as green PCs, in Japan. The company estimates that, if conventional desktop computers used in many companies are replaced with power-saving desktop computers that combine a display and a multi-core central processing unit (CPU), about 65 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) can be saved annually per 1,000 units.

A multi-core CPU composed of multiple independent cores is capable of parallel processing, which not only increases processing speed but also reduces power consumption and heat generation.

According to IDC Japan, with growing concern for saving power and reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the introduction of green IT, including power-saving PCs among major companies, national and local governments, their environmental awareness will be translated into action from 2008. The company expects the use of green PCs to spread in the near future.
