Sanyo Electric Co., a major Japanese electric appliance company, will start to sell refrigeration units that use the 'enegreen Supermarket Showcase Refrigerating System' in June 2007. The system can reduce the power consumed by refrigeration at supermarkets by up to 46 percent.

When compared with conventional single refrigeration units, the newly developed system can reduce annual electrical energy consumption by up to 38 percent. The system can also save up to 46 percent of the energy consumed by refrigeration units at supermarkets by combining the refrigeration units with Sanyo's consolidated energy saving system, which also controls in-store equipment such as air conditioning and lights. At supermarkets, refrigeration units typically account for about 40 percent of the total energy used.

By applying technology developed for air-conditioning equipment, Sanyo adopted the W-Multi System, which is able to connect multiple showcases and refrigeration units. The new 'enegreen' refrigerating system makes it possible to build a best-suited structure for each store premises, because it can combine five models of refrigeration units fitted with one or two AC constant speed compressors and DC inverter compressors, thereby allowing optimized operation for the refrigerating capacity of the showcases.
