Test-Run Begins for Wood Biomass Power Generation Facilities in Shiga

Keywords: Local government Manufacturing industry Reduce / Reuse / Recycle Renewable Energy

Aiming to create and expand self-efficient and sustainable regional communities, Shiga Prefecture, Higashiomi city in Shiga, and Yanmar Co., Ltd. have been jointly developing a wood biomass power generation system since April, 2006. The complete test facilities started its test run on September 17, 2006.

In the test, waste resources such as sawmill residues, pruned branches and bamboo collected by Higashiomi City are gasified to generate fuel gas. This gas is then used to produce electricity (22 kW) and heat in the Dual Fuel Co-generation System, which is capable of constant power production even with low calorie gas.

Higashiomi, a keen participant in the Canola Flower Project, is committed to creating model sustainable communities in the region. The joint project is also expected to use glycerin collected in the BDF purification process and Bio Diesel Fuel (BDF) for power generation.
