UV-Protective Laundry Detergent Developed

Keywords: Eco-business / Social Venture Manufacturing industry

Lion Corp., a major manufacturer of household products, launched limited sales of a new detergent, "Blue Dia UV Cut," in June 2006. Washing clothes in this new detergent makes them protective against ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

The detergent was developed by adding UV absorber to Lion's conventional laundry detergent, "Blue Dia," which enjoys high demand during summer for its thorough removal of perspiration odors. The Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) conferred is 5 after one wash, 15 after five washes and 30 after 10 washes.

Against a backdrop of growing consumer awareness of increasing UV radiation caused by ozone layer depletion, many people are trying to avoid overexposure by using UV-protective clothing, cosmetics and skin care products.
