A new in-store package air conditioner system developed by Hitachi Air Conditioning System Co. won the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize at the 16th Energy Conservation Awards sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center of Japan. The award ceremony was held on February 1, 2006.

The Awards were started with the aim of developing and promoting energy-efficient products through extensive research, and recognizing household appliances and systems with outstanding energy-saving performance. The Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize is granted to the most highly cited products.

The winner, Hitachi's new energy-efficient package air conditioner for large-scale stores, features three power sizes (22.4, 28.0 and 33.5 kW) with side flow outdoor units that represent an industry first.

With improved compressor efficiency and the introduction of an inverter control, the new models have achieved COPs (coefficient of performance) as high as 4.24 for 22.4-kW units, with a 40 percent reduction in installation area, and reducing conventional outdoor top flow of 28.0-kW units by about 25 percent. The compact design and convenient installation were particularly valued for their contributions to energy efficiency.
