Sekisui House Launches Eco-friendly Home Model Series

Keywords: Eco-business / Social Venture Manufacturing industry

Sekisui House Ltd., a major Japanese home builder, launched on November 4, 2005 a line of eco-friendly home construction models known as the Eco Life Model series. The equipment, specifications and planning for this new series are based on the following four concepts: (1) energy saving, (2) effective use of resources, (3) harmony with the environment and (4) health, comfort, safety and ease of mind.

Sekisui has its own next-generation energy-saving specification standards for single-family homes. These meet next-generation energy-saving standards established by the government, and are the most advanced heat insulation requirements in Japan. By boosting heating and air-conditioning efficiency with excellent insulation and airtight performance, Sekisui has drastically reduced energy consumption while realizing an indoor environment that remains cool in summer and warm in winter.

Houses in the new series are equipped with a rainwater tank and a bathwater recycling system to effectively recycle rainwater and bathwater for daily use, for example to flush toilets. To enable homeowners to feel close to the environment, the Eco Life Model houses have spaces designed for close contact with nature, such as a rooftop garden and a semi-outdoor space called a "loggia," which connects indoor and outdoor spaces.

In addition, the new series is health conscious. For the interior finishing and even attic materials, Sekisui uses building materials that minimize emissions of formaldehyde, which causes sick house syndrome.
