The Food Safety Commission was established in the Cabinet Office in 2003 to ensure the highest level of food safety in Japan. Its major roles are 1) Conducting risk assessment on food in a scientific, independent, and fair manner, and making recommendations to relevant ministries based upon the results from the risk assessment, 2) Implementing risk communication among stakeholders such as consumers and food-related business operators, and 3) Responding to food-borne accidents and emergencies.

The database contains the food safety information collected by the commission from international organizations, government agencies in Japan and abroad, and other sources.

On the menu page, users first choose from among meeting minutes, research projects, food safety information, and fact sheets/Q&A. Then, on the selected category page, they can search for key words, key phrases, document dates, or information sources.
