The Osaka NGO 'CASA' - Getting the International Perspective

Keywords: Climate Change NGO / Citizen Reduce / Reuse / Recycle

There are many environmental NGOs (non-governmental organizations) in the Kansai Region of Japan where the Kyoto Protocol was adopted in 1997 to address climate change. CASA (the Citizens' Alliance for Saving the Atmosphere and the Earth) is a Kansai-area NGO that focuses on issues such as global warming and climate change, air pollution and waste disposal.

CASA has two main types of activities: One is to promote research by affiliated specialist study groups and make proposals based on their findings. The other involves environmental education, such as the "People's University on Global Environment," a series of lectures offered for presentation at venues organized by volunteer citizens groups. CASA also develops materials for environmental education.

While working internationally to help implement the Kyoto Protocol, CASA plans to expand its environmental education activities by offering training courses for instructors, and to give higher priority to community activities for citizens.
