Matsushita Shokai Co., a Japanese maker specializing in precision plastic products such as light guidance panels for liquid crystal displays, has developed a bright, long-life and energy-efficient visual guidance street lamp. This lamp can emit light from a light-emitting diode (LED) exclusively in the necessary direction.

Unlike conventional visual-guidance lamps that diffuse light in a 180-degree angle from the light source, the newly developed lamp named "Viewlight" can emit light uni-directionally thanks to a specially treated light-guidance plate.

Because it uses a super-intense LED as its light source, this product requires no maintenance for burned-out bulbs or reduced brightness. The life expectancy of the LED lamp is as long as 100,000 hours. By connecting it to a solar power source, the Viewlight can be easily installed even in places where a power outlet is not available. Operating at low voltage and consuming little energy, it can emit light with any outside power source.

The light's luminescent colors are yellow, red, blue, green and white. Because of its outstanding brightness and durability, the Viewlight is gradually being installed at expressway tunnels, sharp road bends, and road sections often shrouded by fog.
