Fuji Xerox Launches Business Printer Recycling Nationwide

Keywords: Manufacturing industry Policy / Systems Reduce / Reuse / Recycle

Japan's Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. started collecting used business printers from customers on July 1, 2003, with the aim of eliminating waste emissions from its activities and products. Fuji Xerox Printing Systems Co., Ltd. 33 Fuji Xerox domestic sales companies, and 194 shipping agents join this activity.

Fuji Xerox and its affiliates are the first in the business equipment industry to acquire an official designation as a general recycler of industrial waste from the Ministry of the Environment. Previously, due in part to the Waste Management and Public Cleansing Law, companies were disposing of their used printers as industrial waste, at their own expense. With this new designation, however, Fuji Xerox and its affiliates are now able to collect and recycle end-of-life Fuji Xerox business printers, on a nationwide basis.

At the end of a printer's useful life, the corporate user contacts Fuji Xerox or one of its affiliates and signs a waste disposal contract. A designated shipping agent then comes to collect the printer. If requested, a notice that the handling has been completed will be sent to the company.

The company plans to continue promoting "zero waste" activities by recycling Fuji Xerox-brand used office products as well as waste materials generated at its manufacturing facilities, under its company-wide environmental policy of recycling its products.
