Rising Recycling Rates of Used Cans and PET Bottles

According to a survey by Japan's Steel Can Recycling Association and other recycling-related groups, recycling rates of steel and aluminum cans have risen rapidly to over 80 percent. (steel cans 84.5 percent , aluminum cans 80.6 percent in fiscal 2000. Recycling is steadily taking root, as 90 percent of all municipalities in the country are implementing programs to collect garbage that has been separated into bottles, cans, etc.

The Council for PET Bottle Recycling reports that the recycling rate of PET(polyethylen terephthalate) bottles rose to an estimated 44.5 percent in 2001 from mere 1.8 percent in 1995
