Fuji Envipco (Shinjuku, Tokyo) and Nippon Card (Osaka) have launched full-scale sales of a device for collecting bottles and cans at downtown shopping districts.

The two companies developed two types of collectors, one for PET bottles and the other for empty cans. Downtown shopping districts aiming to of expand recycling, will issue a "point card" to shoppers who put empty PET bottles or cans into the collectors. The point card is valid at shops located in any shopping arcade in the district. Not only will this relieve litter and promote recycling, but it will also increase the number of customers participating in the point card system, attracting them to participating shops. Users gain because they can dispose of empty bottles and cans on any day of the week, without worrying about the garbage collection day set by local government.

Nippon Card has introduced and manages point card systems at 650 shopping districts, and hopes to sell one thousand PET bottle & can collecting devices.
