Water Weaves Human Networks

Keywords: NGO / Citizen Water

Water Environment Net Tohoku was founded in August 1993, aiming to conserve the water environment and create a sustainable society through interactions among people working for the water environment. Emphasizing "nature," "water," "people" and "community" as its themes, the non-profit organization based in Miyagi Prefecture in northern Japan has been carrying out activities for conserving and creating the water environment through people-to-people exchanges.

Water is an important component that supports human life and a number of people and groups are working toward its conservation. Water Environment Net Tohoku provides them with opportunities to interact with one another by sharing views and information. Different sectors of society, such as the public, businesses, administrations and universities, can discuss the future of the water environment and think about aquatic conservation. The multi-sector organization hosts water-environment-related networking events and nature-experiencing activities, makes researches and proposals for aquatic environment development, and provides support and cooperation for activities related to the water environment.
