The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport released the latest report on "Water Resources in Japan 2002" (White Paper on Water Resources). According to the report, Japan is a huge water importer, sucking up as much as about 40 billion cubic meters in the form of imports of industrial products and foods. WApproximately 75% of 40 billion cubic meters is imported in the form of import of wheat and barley. With a worldwide water shortage on the horizon, Japan should rethink the current situation.
About 30% of households in Japan now have water purifiers, indicating a rising demand for water "quality".
