Mitsuoka Motor Co, a build-to-order manufacturer of unique cars, began accepting orders on June 16, 2010, for a new electric vehicle (EV) called the "Like." The car is based on the frame of Mitsubishi Motors Corp's i-MiEV, but has additional length to allow for five seats as well as plating for part of the front and rear bumpers to make the car classy and stylish.
It is priced at 4.28 million yen (about 48,000 US dollars) including tax. Buyers can take advantage of the government's eco-friendly vehicle tax reduction on the car purchase tax and the car weight tax, and are eligible for subsidy around 1.14 million yen (about 13,000 US dollars) per car in FY2010.
The car can be charged either through the normal charging mode at home via a household outlet using a special charging cable, or through a rapid charging mode. The company has also developed one-seat next-generation EVs, which are already in use in the parcel delivery industry.
