Japan Post Holdings Co., Ltd. President Yoshifumi Nishikawa announced at a press conference on June 26, 2008, that Japan Post Service Co., Ltd., the postal operating company of the Japan Post Group, is considering replacing its current delivery fleet with eco-friendly vehicles, such as electric or hybrid vehicles, in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This move would come as part of the entire Japan Post Group's effort to combat the problem of global warming.

The move would mean replacing the approximately 22,000 light delivery trucks and 2,000 company cars owned by Japan Post Service with eco-friendly vehicles. However, the specific schedule for introduction has not been decided because electric cars are still being developed. Japan Post Service will also study developing the infrastructure for quickly recharging electric car batteries.
