Japanese Logistic Co. Introduces Eco-driving Management Systems

Anshin Co., Ltd., which runs a distribution company in Okinawa Prefecture, announced on October 3, 2007, that it supported a project to promote Eco-drive Management Systems (EMSs) and made plans to put the system in action. The EMS project aims to gather and analyze vehicle driving data obtained with EMS machines (installed into vehicles and the owner's office ) leased by the Organization for the Promotion of Low Emission Vehicles in order to encourage motor carrier employers to participate.

Information on commercial vehicles is sent in real time to computers in each office. Data on traffic speed, idling, engine revolutions, jackrabbit starts and harsh braking is ascertained and can be used to educate drivers, improving safety and driving economy. In addition, rationalized driving and maintaining transport quality is possible by monitoring vehicle location and installing off-temperature alarm systems into fridge-freezer vehicles.

Since introducing the system in October 2007, the company has saved an average of 11,000 liters of gasoline per month, as compared with the amounts used in 2006. This is equivalent to a 10 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. The company expects that combining various functions of EMSs will further contribute to environmental conservation in the future.
